Book Review: R.L Stine "It came from Ohio - My life as a writer"

As far as I can remember I have always loved to read, everything and anything. I have always been a major book worm as I come from a long line of book worms. Throughout my childhood I always read before bed time and I remember Sunday mornings were dedicated to reading in bed, now this may have been a ploy from my parents to stop me from dragging them out of bed early to entertain me, but I loved it none the less.

Growing up in the 90's meant that I had a serious obsession with the series "Goosebumps". I had ALL the books...seriously...I powered through them like my dog when she gets breakfast (thats really fast). I have always had a love of scary things, whether that be books, films, tv shows etc, therefore "Goosebumps" was a instant hit when I first picked one up.

I recently discovered that "Goosebumps" author, R.L Stine, had released a biography about his life as a writer. As soon as I saw this I immediately HAD to grab a copy as I feared my life could not continue without it.  Here is a fact about me: I would love to be a children's author. Therefore a book about one of my favourite author from when I was young, screamed out "Amazing" to me.

The first thing I loved about this book, is that it is set out in the same way a "Goosebumps" book. The front cover has the typical spooky cartoon, this one being R.L Stine himself surrounded by all this evil ghouls from his book, with the same eerie font for the title. The "Goosebumps" nerd in my kinda loved that.

The book starts off when R.L Stine was a child, driving his brother crazy with stories of all the monsters around his house, travelling all through his life from how he became a professional writer to the kickstart of "Goosebumps". It is a super easy book to read, he doesn't delve too deeply into life events, but enough that you get an idea of what inspired him to become who he is. It's pretty cool because you find out his inspiration for some of the characters in his most famous books.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I literally read it in 2 days as I just couldn't put it down. I definitely recommend it for all "Goosebumps fans" and also those who are interested in writers and the writing process, as it's a great read for a motivation hit.

If you want to grab yourself a copy, jump over to The Book Depository.

Let me know if any of you guys read this book and what your thoughts are!
Until next time...
Amy
