Birthdays...

My birthday is on July 27th. This is 14 days away. My birthday countdown will usually start from the 1st of July, but if everyone is lucky I might sneak it in towards the end (middle) of June. I absolutely love Birthday time. I always have and I know I always will. I know a lot of people don't share my enthusiasm, I am also well aware that you should try and live every day as if it's your birthday! In fact I definitely encourage that...But the thing about your actual birthday is that you don't have to try or pretend anything, because it's YOUR day! Out of the whole year, this one day is dedicated just to you (or your twin...). I find that concept really exciting and just thinking about it gets me really giddy. Birthdays are awesome, yes the presents are great, but to be honest I find that there are SOO many other reasons to find joy out of your birthday. I know a lot of people around me don't care about birthdays, or they don't like birthdays and I just figure why ignore or turn a really positive day into a negative? I don't understand that...So I thought since it is exactly 2 weeks (or 13 days, 12 hours and 30minutes) until my birthday I might as well share some birthday love with everyone!

Five reasons why you should LOVE your Birthday!

1. It's Your day!
There are 365 days in a year, sometimes 366. That's a lot! Sometimes they speed past so quickly that January becomes June, then it's October and then December. So much happens in the year that days can get lost or forgotten. But it that large mass of days, there is one particular one that belongs to each and every one of us. That day will always be special to you and no one can take that away. For me it's July 27th. That's MY day. I might share with other people, but it's still mine. You might have April 14th, or September 23rd. We are all lucky to have our own. Whenever I wake up on my birthday I feel different. It's like someone has wrapped fairy lights around me and plugged an extra 4 batteries in. I feel as though I can do whatever I want, I'm going to ignore all the negative things around me and only focus on the positives! If I want to eat birthday cake for breakfast then I am going to. If I want to sleep in, or wake up at 3am then I will. Nothing can upset me, I own this day and I am damn well going to take it. I think everyone should feel this way. I mean why not? Why give away something special that was given to you?

2. Have a Party!
Growing up I was so lucky to have had the most amazing birthday parties. My birthday was literally always the most magical day. I had a Spooky birthday where I dressed up pumpkin, a Stars and Moon party where my whole house was filled with balloons and decorations all over the roof so it looked like we were in space, a Lost in the Forest Party, a one man band, a snow party, a cowboy party, a 1950s party and on and on. Basically what I'm saying is my parents were amazing at making my day a special one. So this has made me always believe you should celebrate your birthday and what better way than to have a party. I loved themed birthdays. I just think they add some extra magic to your day and if everyone commits to it, it can be a really awesome experience. The Internet is an amazing thing and there are so many places you can go for birthday party inspiration! I personally LOVE Pinterest! I am constantly going on there looking up different DIY ideas. So why not this year throw yourself a party. You'll have an awesome time, you can decorate the house, make themed food and dress up like a fool! You won't regret that you did it, you will regret that you didn't!

3. You are 1 Year Older!
A lot of people are scared of ageing. I guess in a way our age can be viewed as a countdown to the end. That's inevitable, so why worry about it? I look at it as this is the only year I'll be this age again. This year I'm turning 27 and a lot of people keep telling me "it's so close to thirty," like I'm going to contract some severely contagious disease. I say bring it on. I've never been 27 years old before and I never will again. I'll also never be 30 more than once, just like I was only 10 for a year. I'm not scared of something I can't change, I love it because it means every year is different and life is constantly evolving. My only regret is that when I was little I didn't wish to be older. I wish I was happy enough being 8 and being able to play like an 8 year old and have 8 year old thoughts and not try and be something that I wasn't. So embrace your age. You are going to be that age for a whole year, you might as well make it a good year.

4. Birthday Treats.
Birthdays mean you get to treat yourself, this can be done in so many different ways that I think the only way I can properly convey this is to do a list...
-If you are working, take the day off...
-Go somewhere you have ALWAYS wanted to go...
-Have your favourite meal for dinner...
-Buy yourself that thing you have been dying to get but can't justify it...
-Have that extra coffee that you don't need...
-Have your very favourite kind of cake as your birthday cake...
-Wear an outfit that makes you feel amazing...
-Have a really long bath...
-Get yourself a bunch of flowers...
-Eat too much chocolate...
-Wear a badge that says "it's my birthday"...
-Light some candles, blow them out and make a wish...

5. Those Special People around You!
I think the best thing about birthdays is that you get to be around the people you love the most. It's similar to Christmas in that birthdays give people a reason to tell that person you love them and you hope they have a really great day. I always spend my birthday with my family and with my friends because they make me happy and they want me to be happy and on your birthday that's what you deserve. Another reason that birthdays are so great is because it gives you a reason to make someone else's day special. As much as I love my own birthday, I especially love everyone else's. I get so much joy from making someones birthday that little bit more magical. Things like birthday cards, flowers, balloons, home made birthday cakes, extra big hugs, singing to them on the phone, a morning coffee, or special birthday surprises will bring a massive smile to someones face. As much as it's nice to give presents, I think making someone feel special and loved is the best gift you could ever give. So I try to give that as often as I can and I think if you can give that to the people you love, then no one would ever hate birthdays. Planet Earth would have the best bloody birthdays in the whole universe and that's pretty cool!
